  1. Unreachable
    (…tribute to fellow poet, David Brian Williams)

    Silence pervades

    Potomac passions

    And strangers cast

    Faces without smiles

    Distinctively set

    As stone

    To the wind.

    I am unreachable.

    Seats of power

    Sway right to left

    From red to blue;

    An acrostic truth

    Emerges off-center after

    Two winters returned from

    Sandy shores and blazing sea.

    I am unreachable.

    Muses nurse nightmares

    And entreat

    Favorable and ill phantasms

    In a nocturne strung

    Until the end of time;

    Heart is strong,

    Love is a diligent pain.

    I am unreachable.

    A poet dies and earth is pleased to consume.

    Winter warms to a soul whirling

    In brand new shoes… and wings.

    Holy day is a lowly day

    To hear black bird songs,

    And heal in solitude while foxes

    Go on nightly runs.

    I am unreachable

    In ameliorated chambers

    For a time simple love strolls in unknown;

    Pasted away warriors

    Haunt battlefields,

    Tap the edge of night,

    And carry love letters

    Lipstick kissed and slightly burned.

    I am unreachable
