Poetic Obituaries: Wilma Elizabeth McDaniel, poet laureate

of Tulare County, lay dying but began dictating "Apparition" a few weeks before she finally stopped breathing.

"It was peach time August
And we worked so gladly
And the dim packing shed

    I have been an admirer of Wilma McDaniel since the early '80's. I think of her from time to time, but seldom sit down to enjoy her talent.

    I agree with those critics who say that her choice of words is always perfect. Also there is never a wasted word in her poems.

    Her poetry speaks of pure life. The joys, hardships and reality of daily living--whoever you are, wherever you live; what you encounter and treasure.

    Ms. McDaniel has brought me hours of enjoyment and awe. I'm so glad that I "found" her and her talent
