Great Regulars: C.H. Sisson's "Waking", by contrast,

is a summer poem, published the year before Larkin's death, that finds a comparably ghastly prospect not in the night but in the day. The poem makes an art of world-weariness; and unlike Larkin, Sisson had another twenty years to live . . . .
