Poetic Obituaries: [Pinkie Gordon] Lane was chair of

the Department of English at Southern from 1974--1986. She was published in a variety of journals and was recognized as one of the 58 outstanding women for inclusion in the Women's Pavilion of the World Exposition held in New Orleans in 1984.

From 1989--1992, she served as the first African-American Poet Laureate of Louisiana.
