Poetic Obituaries: Dr. [William P.] Swisher loved his family,

gardening, classical music and the arts. He was gifted with a prodigious intellect. He voluntarily completed the Illinois State Medical Exams a second time in mid-career as an exercise in keeping current with new developments in the field. At age 76, he took up painting and writing. He exhibited his paintings in Evanston and Ludington, Mich. and published several books on the Mills and Swisher families, on the evolving practice of medicine during the 20th century, poetry, and numerous essays.
