Great Regulars: At a sold-out appearance at the Bagdad Theater,

she [Patti Smith] sang an impromptu verse about her love for the city that ended, "Powell's is so big, if I was there in the '70s, they never would have found me." She brought out R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck to play on "People Have the Power" and concluded what started as a reading with a spirited singalong.

Earlier in the day, during an hourlong interview across the street at Powell's Books on Hawthorne, Smith said she's written four or five unpublished books besides "Just Kids," her new memoir about her relationship with artist Robert Mapplethorpe.
