Heaven seems to have cast the speaker out, as if he were a fallen angel. Yet, in turn, he rejects the "lust" of earth. Neither the spiritual nor the carnal is his home. He boasts that "hell" is his "only foe"--rejecting the path of evil too. So what is he searching for?
