two terms at Commerce, working mostly in trade development as deputy assistant secretary for technology and aerospace. Ellis Robert Mottur was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated with honors in 1952 from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. He received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1954, then served two years in the Army in Geneva as a German interpreter.
He wrote a book of poetry, "A Poetic Journey: From Fear--Through Love--to Faith and Felicity," published this year.
