Great Regulars: Baltimore officials have hired consultants

to devise a business plan to keep the Poe House open.

The Edgar Allan Poe Society also is seeking private donations. A recent drive by Baltimore artists netted $10,000, said museum curator Jeff Jerome. The house is owned by the Baltimore Housing Authority.

In a related development--related that is to author house museums--the Mark Twain House in Hartford, Conn., was in bad enough financial shape to begin with when it was discovered an employee had embezzled more than a $1 million over eight years.
