Great Regulars: This stunning small poem

does so much to capture the spirit of the time and of great-souled Rosa Parks in a few words. It made me think how much Rita Dove's poems are about the right to a vivid inner life.

I heard Rita Dove speak at the University of Rochester a few years ago. In addition to being a wonderful writer, she is a wonderful reader.

Hi Lisa,

I would love to see Rita Dove. You just reminded me, that I've been meaning to pick up her latest book as well. Of the four poets in the article, I've only gone to see Robert Pinsky, who was fabulous.

These venues, where poets make their circuits, speak and sell their books, is where poetry is very much like music, taking the band on the road to get listened to, and make the big time.

Oh, of course, as you know, we didn't meet at, because we didn't know until later, but we were both at The Concord Poetry Center's Jane Kenyon Tribute. And, as you know, the picture in my Blog profile, is of me watching Donald Hall sign his latest book, while sitting in the autograph corner set up at the reception we both attended.
