11 books of poetry, two plays, a book of short stories, a syllabus for teaching poetry and four books of essays. He also has edited several books and magazines. He has had dozens of his poems, essays, reviews and stories published in various papers, magazines and anthologies.He taught creative writing, as well as report writing at Surry Community College. He also previously worked for The Mount Airy News.
He taught poetry writing in Stokes County Schools and in the Durham City Schools. Shows of his poetry have been featured at the Mount Airy Public Library and at the Durham Arts Council. He was honored as the Third Century Artist by the North Carolina Arts Council.
