Great Regulars: [George] Szirtes's sonnet captures a complex

combination of unease, shock and guilty pleasure although, like the hunt, it cannot completely contain the ambiguous impulses it rouses: the straggling last line suggests that artistic closure sometimes conflicts with a more mixed interest in prolonging the moment.
