March 8th forum announcement

Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

We begin with an excellent story about former U.S Poet Laureate Donald Hall receiving the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama. This fine article from the Concord Monitor, however, is followed up with a link to Stanford University's The Book Haven where we find that The Washington Post has run a derisive blog about the event. That same clutch of links finishes with Frank Wilson's post on the matter at his blog Books, Inq: The Epilogue. I did not, however, give The Washington Post a link to its blog on Mr. Hall, as I did not want to be a supportive statistic. The link is available in The Book Haven article.

January's IBPC results are in thanks to our Winter 2011 judge Kwame Dawes. Congrats to the poets and boards on their winning poems!:

1st Place: Infield Chatter by Michael Harty of Wild Poetry Forum
2nd Place: Death Artist by Billy Howell-Sinnard of The Writers Block
3rd Place: The Borrow Pit by Allen M. Weber of Muse Motel
HM: Pack Ice by Bernard Henrie of The Waters Poetry Workshop
HM: The Forgetting Water by Brenda Levy-Tate of PenShells

There is plenty more news, dozens of essays, reviews and poems. It's a fine week for poetry, and it's International Women's Day to boot. I'll let you get to your reading.

Yours,
Rus

Hello Rus,

A quick clarification: Although the Book Haven is on the Stanford University website (along with many other blogs within the Stanford community), the opinions expressed on it are mine only.

I wouldn't wish to give anyone the impression that I am speaking on behalf of Stanford.
