[William] Meredith won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry for "Partial Accounts: New and Selected Poems." In 1997, he won the National Book Award for Poetry for "Effort in Speech." "If you look at his career," says [Dana] Gioia, "what you see is a long and remarkable story."
