August, raced up to him at the dog park near their home in East Hampton and breathlessly insisted that he guess this year's Pulitzer poet, he guessed Mr. [Robert] Hass. A win-win. It requires a 30-year flashback to review what happened the last time that Mr. Schultz--Buffalo-born poet/teacher, clueless Pulitzer nominee (it was a secret) and jubilant winner this month of a $10,000 prize--had a close encounter with a major literary award.
