October 21st forum announcement

Dear Poetry Aficionados,

IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags

Two weeks ago, we linked to a story about Islam Samhan, a Jordanian poet, threatened with arrest for his writing. Grand mufti Noah Alqdah Samas felt it his obligation to push the issue and call
Samhan "an enemy of religion" for "comparing his loneliness to that of the prophet Yusuf in the Quran." Evidently, the world's bringing the mufti's outrageous and ridiculous charges against a poet out in the open, didn't register with the fool considered to be "the kingdom's highest religious authority," a fool pretending to know what's best for Allah. Our lead story this week is about Islam Samhan being placed under arrest.

We have four new Great Regulars this week. Each of them is a publication. Both Express News and The Independent Weekly are periodically publishing poems. FindingDulcinea is bringing us a series of columns called "Happy Birthday," including write-ups on poets on their birthdays, and Robert Pinsky is one. Nifty idea. And New West has adopted Pinsky's Favorite Poem Project, and is putting these videos up on the web. I almost automatically make such publications Great Regulars, and hope they continue this. It's what Poetry & Poets in Rags is all about, linking with thanks when the news brings us poets and poems.

Have a great week. Thank you for clicking in.

Yours,
Rus
