became known for his poetry, which he had been writing for four decades but which was first published just last fall in a slim volume titled "Turn, Turn, Tern: My Unfinished Business," published by local press Hickory House.
The intensely personal poems reflect his thoughts and emotions throughout a life that was harder than most.
"Some of the poems were written out of pure desperation; some will make you laugh; some will make you cry,...but they're all mine," Swain said at a reading in Onancock last February.
