Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
It's suppose to be every five years, but this year the position of Oxford Professor of Poetry is up again, because last year Ruth Padel, who got the position and then resigned, dug up dirt on the frontrunner Derek Walcott, who stepped aside before the vote. This year, there is another election to replace Padel, who never served and resigned the position. Now, we have Paula Claire, the only female candidate, leaving the competition before the election, while Michael Horovitz shoots arrows at another candidate, Roger Lewis. This fracas yields our two top stories this week in Poetry & Poets in Rags.
Not to be shouted down, there is plenty more news in poetry. We link to articles on prefigurative art, and poets Pat Lowther, Patricia Smith, and Fiona Sampson. The Back Page article from the New Yorker is not to be missed. In Great Regulars, we have poems by Marcia F. Brown and Connie Wanek, among several others, and articles by Marianne Combs, Linda Sue Grimes, Bob Hoover, Tsipi Keller, Christopher Nield, Carol Rumens, John Timpane, Frank Wilson, and Terry Wooten.
Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
