News at Eleven: [Michael Horovitz] has some detractors,

not least Roger Lewis: "Time wounds all heels," he quipped when I saw him. But he has since accused Lewis of being unqualified for the job in a letter to a newspaper. Otherwise, he has some noteworthy supporters, too. From an electoral roll comprising the Convocation (students who collected their degrees) and Congregation (the university "parliament"), Monty Python's TGP Jones, the politician AW Benn and--better known for his initials--the writer AN Wilson have all given him their nominations. But after a lifetime spent in the counter-culture, you wonder why Horovitz wants to hang out with the squares of academe?
