Poetic Obituaries: But despite his absence, Sgt. Matthew Soper's words

were carried in the hands of thousands Friday: "I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do! I fought for my country and I am 'An American Soldier.'"

Those words were inside the pages of a program distributed to the crowd waiting to greet their loved ones returning from Iraq with the 1461st Transportation Company.
