News at Eleven: Writers don't make much money

from what they do. They write because writing matters to them. They may be crotchety about getting the right words on paper, but they tend to be generous in helping others. It's the quality of the work that a real writer cares about, not the ego.

I can verify that poets (in general) do not make a lot of money especially non-academic poets!
