Dear Poetry Aficionados,
Poetry & Poets in Rags blog
We begin our week's worth of links to news articles on poets and poetry, with a look down under at Les Murray. This is followed by an interview with Billy Collins, then an article on Chinese dissident and poet Liao Yiwu. And I just realized that we then look at Henri Cole's new book, followed by a new collection of Philip Larkin poetry, and what we have is five bald or balding men in a row right off the bat. Okay then. However, they are followed by another male poet, Benjamin Zephaniah, who has plenty of hair.
The very next link, the sixth one, is on a theme which recurs this week. It is on the Poets & Writers 2012 ranking of MFA programs. I've included both the Slate article, which takes issue with the rankings, and Poets & Writers' response to an open letter addressed to them. That latter link includes the open letter as well. The issue has traveled a good part of the globe, as it is taken up by Great Regular Alison Flood in our second section.
Another recurring theme is poet Ed Bok Lee. Two of our Great Regulars present articles on him and his poetry this week, Marianne Combs and John Freeman.
I'll let you get to your clicking and reading, just to note first that we have important poetry articles covered in all three of our sections, Poetic Obituaries included. Thanks for clicking in.
Yours,
Rus
