Great Regulars: It's a fascinating distinction, and one

that also has the neat effect of moving the debate on from the contentious territory of the SF/litfic turfwar into that of value-neutral literary theory. As Miéville says, there is nothing inherently superior about recognition or estrangement, but given that the literature which the Booker traditionally rewards tends to be of the "ah, yes!" variety rather than what we might term the "oh, my" sort, does it not seem reasonable that we give long-overdue space to the latter?
