at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he was a professor of Spanish studies for four years before accepting a position at the University of Arizona, where for 30 years he was a recognized scholar in linguistics, philology and medieval Spanish literature. His professional and academic contributions include Spanish text books and numerous published articles. He was the founder of the Medieval journal, "La Coronica", as well as the author of two volumes on the 12th century epic poem about Alexander the Great, a literary work on which he devoted most of his academic career.
