August 22nd forum announcement

Dear Poetry Fans,

Poetry & Poets in Rags

The ferry into Lofoten last week was like entering a dream. If you ever get the chance, you should go.

Here is Poetry & Poets in Rags, back after a week hiatus with the biggest issue ever. I made sure of only 11 articles in News at Eleven, because we have 31 Great Regulars, and 23 Poetic Obituaries, making a total of 65 articles from all over the world, for your information, perusal, and enjoyment. Our headliner is a great article by the National Poet of Wales, something that should prove useful to the poetry forums around the web. In Great Regulars, we have articles by former IBPC judges Sarah Crown (two) and David Biespiel, and one by upcoming judge David Kirby some of you may want to check out.

I need to detract, which is odd, because I usually only link to articles. But, there is an obituary in our November 8, 2005 issue, which notes the passing of a poet named Stephen Magee. In the forum announcement, I made the connection with the poet Stephen Magee, who wrote both "Rightly" which was shortlisted in John Burnside's workshop at The Guardian and published in Other lives, and "Temeraire" in David Harsent's article called Murdering your darlings. The latter Stephen Magee wrote to me, to let me know he is alive. He says, "Perhaps the strangest aspect of this story is that, when my brother's email arrived, I was in the middle of writing an essay entitled 'Do you believe in ghosts?'."

Yours,
Rus
