Poetic Obituaries: Even though [Peter] Wild was struggling

with his health, [Jason] Brown said he was determined to finish teaching this semester.

"Physically, he knew he was dying but he wasn't going to let anything stop him." Brown said. "It's a true loss. We're really going to miss him here. He died in his boots."

"Peter had published over 2,000 poems in his lifetime, more than anyone else in the history of the UA English department," said friend and English professor Carl Berkhout.

Just found this news on Google. Peter was in my unit in the Army in Heidelberg in 1962 or so. His poetry was starting even then to appear in the section of the newspaper Stars and Stripes under "Pup Tent Poets." He was my dear friend and we all wondered how he ever passed the physical to get in the Army.
With his coke-bottle eyeglasses he couldn't see the target on the firing range and, because of friends in the pit with a sharp pencil, he got the top unit trophy for superior marksmanship. With the awards ceremony was muffled giggles and tears. Aufwiedersehn, Peter.
