News at Eleven: [Billy] Koumantzelis recalled driving to New York

with [Jack] Kerouac for an interview on the William F. Buckley show. Author Truman Capote, who ridiculed Kerouac's method of writing by saying, "that's not writing, that's typewriting," was also scheduled to appear.

Kerouac had skipped the make-up room.

"Jack didn't want any powder or perfume on him," Koumantzelis said.

But Capote was in make-up in a nearby room when Kerouac and Koumantzelis passed by. Kerouac walked right up to Capote, gave him a hug and a big kiss.
