Great Regulars: You get a good sense

of [Wallace] Stevens' ideas about real and unreal in his "Study of Two Pears," a poem that blends the imagery of a common fruit with the abstract vision of a painting. It's a poetic parallel to Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase." The pear is less food and more conceived aesthetic form. It is less from nature and more for an occasion to inspire artifice. Less experience and more invention.
