News at Eleven: "I am not afraid of anyone,

even if they hang me or whatever they do to me. I ask the government not to allow writers to use bad words against sacred things," [Mala Masud] Kanikurdaiyee said in his speech.

Recently, there was debate over using the word "gender." In that debate, Islamic scholars criticized the secular parties that the word in some sense endorses gay marriage and is not a proper word for use in the Kurdish Islamic community. On the other hand, women's rights activists and some writers criticized the religious figures for not understanding the meaning of the word.
