Great Regulars: [Sylvia] Plath is haunted by the great brutalities

of the century--Dachau, Hiroshima: brutalities with which, despite the poetry, she was progressively less able to cope. Unlike Brueghel's lovers, Plath does turn to face the "desolation", and it destroys her.
