following incident as the background to this poem: "One day I ran into Riaz Shahid as he was on his way to the Mayo Hospital. I asked him if everything was alright. He said, 'Well, Neelo has committed suicide.' On my probing he explained, 'There was a dinner for the Shah of Iran at the Governor's House last night and Neelo was asked to dance there. She refused. But they threatened to take her there by force if she didn't come willingly. To that she responded by taking an overdose of sleeping pills.
