News at Eleven (Back Page): There was no real warning.

The previous evening, 18-year-old Eddie had been lounging around with his father, the broadcaster and author Michael Rosen, at his east London home. He had been feeling a little fluey, he said, but was well enough to make jokes, and in fact appeared his normal self. Early the following morning, he was dead.

The culprit, although Rosen did not know it at the time, was a deadly strain of bacteria that had breached the defences of the 6ft 4in teenager, and caused blood poisoning. The infection, meningococcal septicaemia, had killed him in hours.

from The Telegraph: 'I went to check on him, but he was dead'
