Great Regulars: In this poem, Tennyson contemplates

transience and transformation. All things were once their opposite, so that the "deep" ocean washed where the "tree" now grows, high above ground. The din and movement of the bustling metropolis were once the silence and "stillness" of the "central sea," long before even the dinosaurs stirred. Can we hear that stillness? It is still there, deep within each breath we take.
