among her family and friends, [Emily] Dickinson "was more widely known as a gardener."

A lifelong student of botany, Dickinson tended the garden at her family's homestead in Amherst, Massachusetts. Though the garden has not survived, in her letters and in others' recollections, Dickinson's planting prowess is evident in abundance.
