I noticed a reticence, a refraining from stridency ---- as Jewish--American--Israeli politics grow louder, many of the poets we read seemed to whisper, scatter and echo across the page, and we had to lean over to hear them better. Maybe because each poet's Jewish Experience has become refracted, singular, strange to the party--line of kiddush and kaddish. ---- Eds.
