Poetic Obituaries: Back home, he [Marshall Rosenthal] tended

bar at O'Rourke's, a literary hangout on North Avenue, and wrote poetry for the Chicago Seed, a radical leftist countercultural weekly newspaper.

"In those days we had all these folders tacked on the wall (of the Seed office) holding different kinds of story submissions, and the fattest one we labeled as 'No More Goddamn Hippie Poetry!' because hippie poetry was so bad," said Abe Peck, the Seed's editor. "But Marshall's poetry was pretty good, and we published it."
