Poetic Obituaries: [Johnny] Mullins wrote the 1954 country hit

"Company's Comin'," first recorded by Porter Wagoner and later by a string of singers including Springfield's own Red Foley.

But it was his country chart hit, "Blue Kentucky Girl," recorded by Emmylou Harris, that won him an invitation to the Grammy Awards in 1980. (The song lost to Kenny Rogers' "You Decorated My Life.")

"He was just as talented as he could be," Peggy Mullins said Wednesday. "He wrote poems, books, songs--they were coming out of him all the time."
