But the word "scuttle" also has other meanings that intensify her thought: a long, narrow container, like a basket, to collect just-picked fruits, vegetables and flowers or a bucket, like a coal scuttle, again to collect the variety of "things" that preoccupy our lives. And it has another, more tragic meaning, of loss, such as scuttling a ship. Or a plan or project. Or the ordinary of everyday life.
