News at Eleven: [Louise] Glück is too much

of a poet not to recognize that candor, in poetry, means the impression, or perhaps the illusion, of candor--that candor is no more immune to artifice than any other kind of poetic rhetoric.

Even so, there are different kinds of illusion, different inflections that the poet can choose to give to the appearance of honesty.
