[Elizabeth] Hardwick married [Robert] Lowell, one of the most prominent poets of his generation. They had one child, daughter Harriet.In 1963 a lingering newspaper strike in New York City spurred Hardwick, Lowell and the Epsteins [Jason and Barbara] to found the New York Review of Books.
"We were having dinner and we said, 'Let's do a book review of our own to show what a good one could be,'" [Jason] Epstein recalled this week.
