Great Regulars: Your training for an academic career

will turn your mind to mush, that is, rendered useless as a creative instrument. A Ph.D. is most unhealthy for a creative artist; it makes you overly analytical, critical, highly opinionated, defensive, persnickety, close-minded and complacent. Complacency is indeed one of the great enemies of creativity. Too much education can be ruinous to your creative health. It will dull the sharp edge of your writing (and fighting) spirit.
