News at Eleven: Nissim [Ezekiel]'s position as the pre-eminent

Indo-English poet of our time is well established. But what about his place in World Literature? The question never bothered Nissim. He was only concerned with the quality of his poems. When he was actually asked, 'What about your place in World Literature?' in an interview, he answered, with some irritation "Perhaps, I don't make it on the international scene . . . Most Indian writers don't. We're just not good enough."
