IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags
How else to say it, but that this week, we have yet another poetry publishing spectacular online event, now from The Guardian. Last week, it was the New York Times pulling off a superb collection of poetry. Now we have a poem from each of the TS Eliot Prize nominees. So this is where we lead off. The second story is that Jen Hadfield won the prize, and we have two articles that bring you her poetry only.
However, the particular poem from The Guardian that we headline with is by Mick Imlah. A Great Regular of Poetry & Poets in Rags, I sought his columns each week in order to link you to them. He has died. You will find more on this from two other Great Regulars, Sarah Crown and Fiona Sampson. Another article is in the Poetic Obituaries. Also in that latter section are more deaths in the poetry world, including Great Regular James Fenton's father, US Poet Laureate Kay Ryan's wife, W.D. Snodgrass, and others.
Another TS Eliot Prize nominee, Mark Doty also appears elsewhere in the poetry news. John Freeman reviews his award-winning Fire to Fire, and Mark also gives us a remarkable column in The Guardian's poetry workshop in Great Regulars.Congrats to the IBPC winners for December. Greta Bolger's poem "Milk Noodle" took first place for The Waters Poetry Workshop.
Second went to the poem "Aftermath" written by S. Shademan at Poets.org. The poem, "Momento Mori" by Brenda Levy Tate of Pen Shells took third. And the HM went to Emily Brink's "Evening Prayer" workshpped at The Writer's Block. The judges for this batch of poems are Hélène Cardona and J.M. FitzGerald.
