Poetic Obituaries: In the 1970s, she [Jean Sinclair Symmes] helped

start the professional women's cooperative in Washington as a place were female therapists, lawyers and artists shared office space, classes and access to foundation support.

Jean McKeown was born near Philadelphia and legally changed her surname to Sinclair. She was a graduate of the University of Chicago, where she also received a doctorate in psychology in 1956.

She wrote poetry and plays, some of which were produced locally.
