Great Regulars: 5. In lots of ways I can't win this argument,

as uncontroversial as its central premise may be. The people who have the most to gain from listening to it are also the ones who have the most to lose by my being right. But nothing can shake my conviction that a literary culture is healthier, wealthier and more worthy of being passed down to the generation behind us, when we're not smilingly bullied into abandoning its free inquiry.
