News at Eleven: Hamlet's fear is fear of dying,

or of what comes after; he fears that the pain and suffering after death might be worse than that he is now enduring: he wonders, "But that dread of something after death-/// . . . puzzles the will,/And makes us rather bear those ills we have/Than fly to others that we know not of?" It is that fear of the unknown that warns him away from death. For a combat Soldier, it is the fear of the known and shameful consequences, not a fear of death, that drives forward to confront death, that encourages to action, or inaction, depending on the situation, the requirement, the orders.
