Poetic Obituaries: In 1977 he [Michael J. Smith] returned

to Holland, where he settled, and switched from playing the violin to the viola.

He had worked for 10 years on his musical setting of William Wordsworth's famous poem, telling The Journal he believed the poet was a national treasure who had had massive influence.

It was his first choral composition and the singers of Ryton Choral Society performed a 30-minute excerpt during their Christmas concert.
