with "plenteous wadding stuffed," decorated with green and blue, yellow and red. But progress didn't stop there . . . India added cane "smooth and bright" with "Nature's varnish" and turned the stool into a chair.
Now came another innovation. The "ladies" began to "murmur" in dismay at how uncomfortable the chair was--and when this "sweet moan" was heard, "ingenious fancy" stepped in to perfect the scheme and--lo!--the settee was created.
