News at Eleven (Back Page): Choose one of the other finalists.

What's one quality of their poetry you wish was in yours?

Mick Imlah's poetry reminds me to go into every passion and pain of my own world, every character, every turn of speech, every story. His poetry's connection to poets I know and love, like Tennyson, Edwin Muir, the Victorian James Thomson, reminds me to be always drawing life from these poetic ancestors too: they are in my landscape, just like the people who lived and died here.
