Great Regulars: The rose is a universal and continual symbol

in world poetry, and its meaning depends on the context and the culture. In Western culture, the rose usually signifies a variety of ideas such as love, pleasure, femininity, womanhood, maternity, beauty, sensuality and sexuality. Dante used the figure of a cosmic rose in "Paradiso," the third book of "The Divine Comedy," to stand for God's love and the radiant light surrounding His presence. The rose is also used in heraldry and in the religious orders of the Rosicrucians.
